Woman in critical condition after car loses control and hits tree

A woman is in critical condition in hospital after the car she was a passenger in lost control and hit a tree.

Police are appealing for information after a serious road crash

The incident happened on the A994 at the roundabout junction with the A985 in Cairneyhill, Fife, at around 1.50pm on Monday.

A 74-year-old man was driving a red Vauxhall Corsa which appeared to lose control and come off the road before crashing into a tree.

Emergency services attended and both occupants of the car were taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary.

Hospital staff say the woman is in a critical condition while the man is in a serious condition.

Sergeant Colin Morrison said: "Our investigation to establish the cause of this road crash is continuing.

"I would appeal to anyone who witnessed the crash take place, or anyone who was driving on this road around the time of the crash who has dash-cam footage, to please contact us."
