Woman critical after crash

A WOMAN was fighting for her life last night after a motorway car crash, police said yesterday.

The 22-year-old was in a critical condition after the accident on the M74 on Saturday. She was a passenger in a Vauxhall Corsa, driven by another 22-year-old woman, that was heading south when the car left the road and crashed on to the motorway embankment at about 5:15pm.

Emergency services were called to the scene, near Bothwell services, and both women were taken to Wishaw General Hospital. The passenger, who suffered head injuries, was transferred to Glasgow's Southern General Hospital.

The driver of the car was being treated for injuries to her arm and was in a stable condition.

Strathclyde Police have appealed for witnesses.
