Woman admits stealing from neighbour

A WOMAN stole £340 from a neighbour she befriended, a court has heard.

Emma Brown, 28, became close to Sir Michael Brady after moving into a flat nearby and often ran messages for him. She took his credit card and withdrew cash from his account.

Brown, of Burnhead Crescent, Liberton, admitted stealing 340 and attempting to withdraw 530 on June 10.

Not guilty pleas to a charge she stole the credit card and two charges of attempting to use the card to purchase items were accepted by the Crown.

Defence agent Robert More said Brown continued to reside close by to Sir Michael and that there was no animosity.

The court heard that Brown, who has struggled with drug misuse, had used the money to visit her sister after the death of their father.

Sheriff Alistair Noble deferred sentence until next month for background reports.
