Woman, 69, targeted in daylight city carjacking

A 69-YEAR-OLD woman was dragged from her vehicle in a daylight car-jacking in the Scottish capital.

The victim was sitting in a silver Honda Civic in the Morningside area of Edinburgh on Thursday when a man grabbed her and struggled with her, leaving her distressed but uninjured. He then drove off in her car. It was found a short time later in nearby Viewforth Gardens.

Police are seeking witnesses to the incident, which happened on Clinton Road around 2:30pm. A force spokesman said: “This is a very unusual occurrence within Edinburgh and we are keen to hear from members of the public who can assist with our inquiries. Although she was not injured, the victim was left extremely distressed and we are engaging closely with the local community to identify the man responsible.

“Anyone with information relating to this incident is asked to contact police immediately.”

They would like to hear from anyone who saw a silver car being driven erratically in the area of Morningside or Bruntsfield between 2:30pm and 4:30pm on Thursday.

The suspected car-jacker is described as white and aged 45-55.

He was of small to medium build and had dark short hair, possibly balding on top. He was clean shaven, spoke with a local accent and was wearing blue clothing.
