Wolfson in global move

wolfson Microelectronics, which makes audio microchips, has bought an Australian company for £3.2 million.

Melbourne-based Dynamic Hearing specialises in hearing aids, building noise reduction software which can also be used in mobile phones and Bluetooth headsets.

It is Edinburgh-based Wolfson’s first overseas acquisition.

Wolfson CEO Mike Hickey said: “This acquisition secures important intellectual property, adds to our customer base and supports our leadership position in delivering HD audio solutions for the consumer electronics market.”

Wolfson’s shares have halved this year due to concerns about consumer spending on gadgets.
