The incident happened around 8.25am yesterday on Glasgow Road, near the Comet store.
A 35-year-old cyclist was knocked off his bike by a drop-side lorry which was travelling in the same direction.
The driver failed to stop and the cyclist was taken to the ERI for treatment to a shoulder injury.
Police are now urging anyone who can help with their investigation to come forward.
A police spokesman said: “The cyclist suffered a painful injury as a result of this collision and we are keen to trace lorry as soon as possible.
“There is every chance the driver was not aware what happened and so we are urging any lorry drivers who were in the area yesterday to contact police immediately.
“Similarly, anyone who witnessed this incident or who has any other information that can help officers with their enquiries is also asked to get in touch.”
Anyone with any information can contact Lothian and Borders Police on 0131 311 3131, or the charity Crimestoppers in confidence and complete anonymity on 0800 555 111.
