A photo of Scotland’s Ben Lui has won the 2014 UK Mountain Photo of the Year award.

The picture by Ross Campbell, 27, a mechanical engineering student at the University of Glasgow, was the runaway winner of the competition run by Trail magazine. Mr Campbell, 27, took the photo on his first wild solo camping trip.

The competition received more than 1,000 entries, with the winning image chosen by an online poll of Trail readers.

A number of other mountains vied for the title of the most picturesque, as seen in the entries.

Judges included Alan Hinkes, the only Briton to climb all 14 of the world’s 8000m peaks.
