Willie bowled over by ambassador honour

Willie WOOD is relishing the opportunity to “put something back into the game” after becoming the first Ambassador of Bowls Scotland.

The 73-year-old West Barns member – who made his name on the bowling greens of Edinburgh – was bestowed with the honour following a 45-year career which has seen him compete at every level of the sport.

Wood, who made an incredible eight Commonwealth Games appearances, said: “I am delighted to be given this role as Bowls Scotland Ambassador.

“I am very grateful to the Scottish Bowling Association and now Bowls Scotland who have supported me over the years. it is a great honour to be given an opportunity to put something back into the game.”

Bowls Scotland Chairman John Anderson said: “Willie will continue to be a great asset to our bowling community in Scotland”
