After the presents have been ripped open, the turkey banquet and all its trimmings devoured, the tipples quaffed and the Christmas movies watched, there is one more ritual that's become a must for thousands of people in the Capital during the festive season: the sales.


For half-price bargains head to Debenhams on Princes Street and at Ocean Terminal. Fashions by John Richmond, Red Herring and John Rocha are up to half price.

For example, a Rocha.John Rocha black leather jacket was 220, now 100. Rocha.John Rocha relaxed fit jeans are now half price at 25. A YSL suit is down from 299 to 150, while lingerie starts at 4.

At Next - stores in Princes Street, St James and the Gyle - the annual sale is renowned and there's up to 50 per cent off winter lines.

Belted slouch tinted jeans are down to 15 while swirl skirts are down to 15. Knitwear and oversize jackets are 15.

John Lewis has up to 50 per cent off selected brands in men's and womenswear. French Connection shirts for men are half price at 20, while Daniel Hechter shirts start at 16. Selected Rockport shoes are also half price, from 55.

In womenswear, Calvin Klein pyjamas are half price at 25, a belted canvas jacket is reduced from 85 to 40, moleskin trousers down from 45 to 22 and lingerie as little as 3.

And get stylish for less at Miss Selfridge, Topshop and Zara with 50 per cent off many fashions.


At Jaeger in George Street, womenswear is slashed in price, with knitwear from 60 and coats from 199. The zig-zag trapeze jacket is down from 299 to 149, jersey camisoles from 45 to 30, flannel trousers from 130 to 99, with sequin scarves and berets half price at 40 and 30. The block colour dress is now 175 from 275. Biker jackets are 149, with skinny trousers, 99.

And the Jaeger discounts continue in menswear, with up to 50 per cent off men's suits, shirts from 30 (were from 50), knitwear from 40 and silk ties now 30 (were 45). A wool cashmere coat is now 249, from 399, wool suits are down from 399 to 199.

Big bargains are also available at Jane Davidson on Thistle Street, with up to 40 per cent off all designer stock. Brands included in the sale are La Perla Collezione, Christian Lacroix, Goat, Feraud, Johnstons Cashmere and Chine. A Diane Von Furstenberg silk Navajo wrap dress, was 285, is reduced to 171. A Missoni belted cardigan, was 420, is reduced to 252, and Radcliffe jeans are down from 155 to 93.

Harvey Nichols is also offering designer gear at discount prices, such as a Prada Toggle long shearling coat down from 2685 to 1611, a Marc Jacobs leopard print slip dress down from 1520 to 760, Donna Karen flare leg trousers reduced from 415 to 295 and from Dolce & Gabanna a washed satin ruffle blouse which was 485, now 201.

For men, the bargains include a Prada bluff cuff shirt down from 165 to 99, a Gucci duffel coat reduced from 2330 to 1218 and a John Smedley cashmere sweater reduced from 230 to 161.

At Cruise in Castle Street and George Street there are also plenty of bargains to chose from including an Armani Jeans wool trim three button navy blazer, was 270 now 135 - a 50 per cent reduction.

At designer lingerie boutique Boudiche in Frederick Street a Mimi Holliday black silk bra is down from 39 to 19.50, while Mimi Holliday silk knickers and strings are down from 29 to 14.50.

Elle Macpherson bra and knicker sets have also been slashed, with bras down from 35 to 17.50 and matching knickers half price at just 11.

At Jenners, men's clothing is up to half price and there is up to 70 per cent off ladies fashion, with a Linea red silk dress which was 75 now down to 37.50.


Head straight to Mulberry for some of the best bag bargains, with up to 50 per cent off. The Joni leather bag in coffee or bottle green is down from 495 to 297; the Bayswater bag in chocolate is down from 495 to 346; the Araline python bag in purple is half price at 847; and the celeb-favourite Emmy is reduced to 416. Gold leather iPod cases are half price at 49, purses are reduced to 87, while men's bags and brief cases also have up to 50 percent off.

At Cruise get up to 50 per cent off accessories, such as Gucci platform boots, which are down from 600 to 360.

A Mawi rosette and bow bracelet was 180, now 90, Prada platform Mary Janes, were 250, now 150 while a Dolce and Gabbana Tan leather Tote is now 525. Accessories are at least 30 per cent off at Harvey Nichols, where everything bar new stock has been reduced.

A Gucci Hobo Bag is down from 665 to 466, a Chloe bowling bag has been reduced from 550 to 385 and a Jimmy Choo foldover bag which was 795 is now 557.

Shoes for men and women at Jenners are reduced by up to 60 per cent, with Kurt Geiger ankle boots down from 179 to 99.

Jewellery and watches are as much as half price, with other accessories also discounted including a Via Republic handbag which was 239 now down to 119 and a Missoni Scarf reduced from 110 to 55.


THERE are bargains to be had for the home too. At House of Fraser there's up to 50 per cent off selected leather sofas, such as the chocolate brown three-seater Seattle, now 899, from 1799.

Televisions are also slashed in price, with 500 off a Philips 32-inch Cineos LCD TV, now 1299. A Samsung 40-inch LCD TV is now 1099.99, normal price 1399.99. There's 25 per cent off selected vacuum cleaners, and 50 per cent off selected wool rugs, cotton towels and bathroom accessories, and bedroom furniture.

At John Lewis there are bargains galore. Egyptian cotton towels are down to 16 for a bath sheet, 11 for a bath towel and 6.50 for a hand towel. A John Lewis grill pan and omelette pan set is now 12, a steamer set is now 19, an Analon five-piece saucepan set is now 120, while a non-stick wok is down to 6.50.

China is also reduced at John Lewis. A 16-piece Denby white porcelain dinner set is now 108, while the Jamie Oliver range starts at just 4.50. Box sets of crystal glasses are as little as 12.50, and a 24-piece Relax cutlery set is reduced to 40.

For modern furniture head to DFS, where there's a double discount sale and three years' interest free credit on all purchases. Purchases are also free for a year so there are no deposits or payments.

A Romney three-seater Fabric Sofa which was 598, is now 299; the Tess three-seater white leather sofa was 980 but is now 450, and the New Martinez corner sofa is 1295 - down from 1695.

Debenhams has up to 50 per cent off homeware, while Jenners is offering up to 50 per cent off bedlinens and bathroom items, with cutlery reduced by 60 per cent and a Meyer 'professional' six-piece cookware set with free skillet down in price from 170 to 85.

Dining furniture is up to 75 per cent off, with a hand-finished hevea wood table with antique cherry finish slashed from 999 to 499.
