Will makes shelter cats extra safe

A NEW cattery at the Edinburgh Cat and Dog Home has been designed to prevent the spread of infection between animals.

The facility was built thanks to a legacy from supporter Alistair Hogg, who died in 2008.

His sister Sharon Maher joined purring pussy Lucy to officially open the building.

David Ewing, the home’s general manager, has spent the last two years developing the new cattery.

He said: “The new cat assessment block can accommodate up to 14 cats in seven separate units, which is helpful as many cats arrive in twos and being together lessens stress.”

The units have lower glass panels and the top sections are meshed, with sleeping areas closed to minimise the spread of infection.
