Wilkinson store urges its customers to donate coats

The Wilkinson store in The Centre, Livingston, West Lothian, is asking customers to donate their old winter coats to help its charity of the year, Age UK.

Collection points will be put in the store and all the donated coats will then be sold on through Age UK shops in order to raise money for the charity’s winter warmth projects.

Age UK works through the winter to help older people access benefits and grants to help with heating costs, helps them get groceries during bad weather, and offers company for isolated people. It says that, each winter, at least 250 elderly people die needlessly from the effects of cold weather.

The appeal has already received the backing of celebrities including Helen Mirren and Stella McCartney, who have already donated old coats of their own.

Donations can also be made at branches of Age UK.

The scheme will run until January 31 in Wilkinson.
