Widow watches CCTV of husband’s murder

THE widow of a pub landlord watched CCTV footage of his murder as appeal judges were asked to extend his killer’s jail sentence.

Lee McNamara, 25, was ordered to spend at least 13-and-a-half years in jail after being given a life sentence for murdering Steven Curran, 47, in the car park of the Dolphin Inn in Whitecraig, East Lothian, in October 2010.

Mr Curran’s wife, Jill, 46, watched prosecutors argue McNamara’s sentence was so low that it was “unreasonable and perverse”, and saw CCTV footage of McNamara punching Mr Curran to the ground before driving over him.

The prosecutor said the attack had been pre- meditated because McNamara told friends he was going to jump Mr Curran.

The appeal judges will give their decision in writing at a later date.
