West Lothian fails to meet FoI target

WEST Lothian Council has failed to meet its target for the number of Freedom of Information requests it answers on time.

The local authority dealt with 84 per cent of queries within the 20 working days time limit in 2011/12, falling just short of its 85 per cent target.

But the council did improve its performance compared to previous years, with 76 per cent answered on time in 2010/11, and just 72 per cent in 2009/10.

West Lothian Council received 874 requests in the last financial year, which was a drop of 4.2 per cent compared to 2010/11. Of the requests, 49 were refused in full or in part, compared with 105 in the previous year.

Graeme Struthers, the council’s head of corporate services, said: “There has been significant improvement on the performance achieved in 2009/10 and 2010/11. The challenge now is to maintain this improved level of performance.”
