Storm Bella: Hour-by-hour forecast as gales set to hit Scotland

Scotland will be hit by high winds and heavy rain brought about by Storm Bella

Gale-force winds and rain will sweep across western Scotland throughout Boxing Day as Storm Bella moves in from the Atlantic.

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning, with gusts and rainfall forecast for much of the west – north of Glasgow – from about 3pm until midnight.

There will be as much as 60-80 millimetres of rain on high ground, with 40mm falling locally, meaning flooding is “likely”.

Strong winds will make for difficult driving conditions, according to the forecaster.

Persistent heavy rain is expected to fall throughout the best part of today, causing travel disruption in affected areas.

Those regions are: Highland; Argyll and Bute; West Dunbartonshire; Perth and Kinross; and Stirling.

For Scotland, the weather warnings are only in place for today and the weather should clear by tomorrow.
