Scotland's weather: forecasters warn of ice and snow for the west

THE cold snap is set to continue across the country this morning with weather experts warning that icy conditions may disrupt travel and forecasting snow for the west of Scotland.

The Met Office has issued a “yellow” warning for ice across most of the country until around 11am today, while rain and snow could also be set to cause problems for commuters in the west.

The “yellow” warning extends across the central belt with areas like Glasgow, Inverclyde and the Lothians all affected as well as places such as Orkney, Shetland and Aberdeenshire in the north suffering the icy weather, which is expected to be prominent until at least tomorrow morning.

It’s expected to remain cold in the north east of Scotland where the temperature is expected to remain just above freezing well into the afternoon.

The Met office also warned that the cold weather and rain may cause “a small chance of travel disruption across parts of Scotland and Northern Ireland”.

Meanwhile, Scotrail have confirmed that the Edinburgh and Glasgow train services to Aberdeen have been disrupted after a lorry struck a bridge between Carnoustie and Arbroath causing minor delays on both services.
