Scotland’s high temperatures expected to plummet

SCOTLAND will endure a “massive drop” in temperatures as the country cools significantly following the recent heatwave.

Thursday was the hottest day of the year north of the border, while the good weather remained into Friday as the UK enjoyed its peak temperatures with highs of 26.8C (80.2F) recorded in London.

It now appears the heat alleviation will be frustratingly brief with the air expected to cool once more.

A Met Office spokeswoman said: “Scotland will see a massive drop in temperatures, from the low 20s today, temperatures could drop by 10 degrees.”

The silver lining for Scotland amid the looming clouds is the likelihood that residents north of the border will avoid the torrential rain expected in parts of England and Wales.

A severe weather warning has been issued for southern England, the Midlands and most of Wales, with “isolated severe thunderstorms” in the East bringing the risk of torrential downpours.

The Met Office said: “Whilst most places will miss the heavier rain, the public should be aware that there is a chance of some very localised significant disruption, mainly from surface water flooding.

“Lightning and hail could also cause some impacts.”
