Tempeatures are set to climb even further in the Capital today, with the Met Office forecasting a high of 27C across eastern parts of Scotland on what has been dubbed “Furnace Friday”.

The Met Office have also warned that UV levels will be high throughout the day.

As we move into the evening and overnight, temperatures are set to be no cooler than 18C in Edinburgh, with the risk of thunderstorms likely during the early hours of Saturday.

The Met Office’s Richard Miles said he did not want to predict exact temperatures but that they could be higher than those being currently experienced.

He said: “Things will feel a good bit fresher by the weekend.

“Showers could arrive on Friday in almost any part of Scotland, with thunderstorms building Friday night into Saturday morning.

“Saturday will not be a total washout but rain is expected in many parts for most of the day.”

He added: “There will also be sunny spells and it will still feel warm, especially the further east you are.

“But next week, we start to see temperatures building again. The highest temperatures this week have been confined to the south east of England but we believe a much wider area will get it hot next week – and that includes Scotland.”

Elsewhere, a yellow “be aware” warning for thunderstorms has been issued for Central, Tayside and Fife between 2am on Saturday to 2pm.
