Weapons and drugs seized at Capital’s court buildings

METHADONE was seized from 460 people visiting Edinburgh Sheriff Court last year, new figures have revealed.

Security guards confiscated the heroin substitute from accused criminals and visitors who entered the building in Chambers Street.

The figures also revealed that one person had methadone while trying to enter the High Court in Edinburgh at the Lawnmarket.

The figures were released by the Scottish Court Service.

In January, it was revealed that more than 1200 people had been caught trying to bring knives into Edinburgh Sheriff Court during the last three years.

Security guards seized Stanley knives, lock knives and pocket knives while other confiscated items included hammers, darts, screwdrivers and razor blades.

The potentially dangerous items were confiscated from people passing through the ­airport-style metal detectors stationed at the court ­building’s entrance.
