Waverley revamp is the rail deal

Waverley Station is being transformed by Network Rail’s
£130 million investment programme, which started four years ago.

The revamp has included replacing the roof with clear, strengthened glass to shed new light on the station.

The new entrance on Market Street comes on top of a refurbished concourse and exterior, as well as escalators on the Waverley Steps.

Improvements have also been made to platforms eight and nine, including new canopies and station furniture.

The station’s original ironwork features are being repaired and repainted, while non-essential station furniture, buildings and redundant high-level walkways are being removed permanently.

The work follows a £150m programme, funded by Transport Scotland, which was completed in 2008, to increase capacity for trains, and longer, more easily accessible platforms.
