Water walk at the peak of its powers

WaterAid is calling on walkers in Edinburgh to don their boots and take on some of Scotland’s finest peaks to raise vital funds for some of the world’s poorest people.

On Saturday, June 16, the charity’s brand new mountain challenge event, The WaterAid 200, aims to put a team on top of the 200 best hills and mountains in the UK and Ireland, as chosen by WaterAid supporters.

The charity hopes to raise £200,000 for its work to improve access to safe water, sanitation and hygiene in Nepal.

The final list includes Scald Law and West Cairn Hill in the Pentland Hills, West Lomond and Ben Cleuch.

Helen Anderson, from WaterAid in Scotland, said: “The WaterAid 200 celebrates the most beautiful hill and mountain walks that the UK and Ireland have to offer – and the peaks around Edinburgh are right up there with the best.

“Every step will help some of Nepal’s poorest people – families with safe water, sanitation and hygiene education have better health and with no need to trek for water, adults are free to earn a living and children have time for school.”
