Watch: Fire crews attend major blaze on Braid Hills

Firefighters have been working through the night to contain a huge gorse fire on Edinburgh's Braid Hills.

Local residents reported seeing “huge flames” and “mountains of smoke” from the blaze, with crews racing to the scene around 5.40pm on Saturday evening.

Images and footage taken by eyewitnesses showed thick black smoke billowing across the city’s skyline.

A spokesperson for SFRS said: “Scottish Fire and Rescue attended a large grass fire in Braid Hills after receiving reports at around 5.38pm yesterday.

“Three appliances attended with 14 firefighters on scene, where a large amount of gorse was on fire.

“Two appliances are still in attendance.”
