Watch Arbroath intruder caught stuck on pub gate

This is the moment an intruder was found hanging from a gate he was trying to climb over - after being stuck for 40 minutes.

The hapless man had attempted to scale a fence leading to the concealed rear area of a pub but got his shoe stuck on a spike.

He was forced to cry for help while dangling in mid-air until a group of regulars went to investigate.

They began filming the scene and quizzed him on what he was up to as he begged for help.

One pub-goer can be heard saying: “We’ll let you down when you explain why the f*** were you climbing the fence?

“What were you trying to steal?”

And the man replies: “Nothing, I was getting up the road.”

Dane Smith, 29, and his friends recorded the man who was perched precariously on a gate at the Westport Bar in Arbroath, Scotland, on Monday afternoon.

He said: “My mate went out for a cigarette and came back in and told me I had to go out and see something.

“I went out and just said: ‘Oh my god’. I couldn’t believe what I was seeing.

“He had his shoe impaled on the fence. Anyone would use their other foot to take the shoe off but he was so out of it that he couldn’t do it.

“He said he had been there for 40 minutes as well.”

Dane and his friends eventually released him from the gate’s grip so he could go home.

The hilarious clips have been viewed nearly one million times with over 3,000 shares on social media.

Dane said the fame is not going to his head, however.

He said: “People have been saying I’m famous but I don’t think I’m quite there yet.

“I’ve had about 200 friend requests on Facebook from people in England. I’m not really sure what they think they’ll gain from adding me, but I don’t mind.”
