Warning over postal service

POSTAL deliveries which were maintained despite the bad weather could be at risk under privatisation plans, Scottish Nationalists claimed today.

SNP postal spokesman Mike Weir praised the staff who "went the extra mile" in the run-up to Christmas to make sure presents and cards were delivered despite the snow.

He said it was a reminder of the importance of a public post service.

He said: "When the big online retailers stopped delivering, the Royal Mail carried on. Would this happen if the Mail was privatised? I doubt it."
