THE Met Office today issued an amber weather warning for the Lothians after torrential rain flooded large parts of the Borders and Fife.

Jedburgh to Luthrie.

In response to the issuing of this latest amber warning a Scottish Government spokesman said: “The Met Office has upgraded its warning for heavy rain to Amber (‘Be Prepared’).

“The Traffic Scotland Control Centre and Scottish Government Resilience Team is closely monitoring the situation and liaising with the police, operating companies, Met Office and other key agencies, including Sepa.

“While the weather is expected to improve, motorists should take extra care on roads affected by heavy surface water.”

Nigel Goody, Sepa’s duty hydrology manager, said: “Scotland has been experiencing slow moving heavy thundery showers and there is the potential for further local problems caused by surface water and small watercourses, depending where more rain falls.”
