Warning to close doors

During the warmer weather many homeowners are tempted to leave doors and windows open, which is a magnet for opportunist criminals, say police.

The warning comes amid "several" break-ins to homes and cars in Mid and East Lothian.

A police spokesman said: "Unfortunately this is an open invitation to the burglar, who will not think twice about entering the property to steal."
