War family history archive unveiled

A NEW First World War archive that will assist visitors in researching their own family’s
history from 1914-18 has
been unveiled in the
Capital.

The World War I History Hub, a first in the UK, has collated huge swathes of information relating to Scotland’s contribution to the Great War and is the product of years of work between Edinburgh City Libraries and the University of Edinburgh.

Members of the public will have the chance to talk to experts about their own ancestors’ involvement in the war. Councillor Richard Lewis, the city’s culture and leisure convener, said: “Over 140,000 Scots gave
their lives between 1914 and 1918 and as we approach the centenary of the First World War I can think of no better tribute to their memories.”
