Voters urged to sign up if they want to have a say

A LOCAL council is urging residents to make sure they are on the electoral register ahead of the upcoming elections.

The Scottish local council elections take place on Thursday, May 3, and Midlothian Council has warned residents that they only have until Wednesday, April 18 to add their name to the electoral register.

Anyone who misses the deadline will not be able to vote in the elections.

Returning officer for the Midlothian area, Midlothian Council chief executive Kenneth Lawrie said: “It’s very important to use your vote.

“It’s your chance to have your say in who runs your council.”

The election registration officer (ERO) compiles and maintains the electoral register for Midlothian. The ERO is asking everyone to check now that they are registered to vote at their current address, particularly anyone who has changed address in the last few months.
