Volunteers clock up 45 years’ work

Three volunteers from the Capital have been recognised for a total of 45 years’ service with Barnardo’s Scotland’s charity shops.

Marjorie Chisholm, Deborah Buckingham and Hilary Kirkland have become firm favourites with staff and customers, and as a thank you their hard work will now be officially commended with a special presentation.

Ms Chisholm first gave up her time for the leading children’s charity in 1986 and volunteers in the Crighton Place branch along with Ms Buckingham, who has been helping out since 2001 – the same amount of time that Ms Kirkland has volunteered at Clerk Street.

Area business manager Sharon Jamieson said: “Our volunteers are at the heart of our shops and Marjorie, Deborah and Hilary are great examples of how giving a little of your time can really benefit everyone – from school leavers to those who have retired.

“As little as two hours a week could make a huge difference.

“On behalf of Barnardo’s Scotland, I’d like to say a big thank you to all of them and look forward to many more years working together.”
