Visit strengthens Jamaican ties

JAMAICA’S High Commissioner to the UK has made a special two-day visit to Edinburgh in a bid to strengthen bonds ahead of the Commonwealth Games in 2014.

Her Excellency Aloun Ndombet-Assamba spent the first day of her tour visiting the Scottish Parliament and attending a civic reception in West Lothian Council’s Civic Centre.

Today, she will visit Edinburgh’s City Chambers and the Scottish Government offices in Leith before leaving for Glasgow to visit 2014 Commonwealth Games facilities.

Strong connections between the two countries originate from Scotland’s 18th century settlement of the region, resulting in many remaining Scottish place names and surnames.
