Views sought on eagle havens

THE public have been asked for their views about creating six new protected areas for golden eagles in Scotland.

Scottish Natural Heritage yesterday launched a 12-week consultation exercise on the proposal to create Special Protection Areas (SPAs).

Areas being considered are Glen Fyne, Glen Etive, Moidart and Ardgour and the islands of Jura, Scarba and the Garvellachs, Foinaven, Glen Affric to Strathconon and the Cairngorms Massif.

SPAs are protected under European legislation covering rare or vulnerable populations of birds in the European Union.
