Video: CCTV released of Stonehaven rape suspect

POLICE have issued CCTV video footage in a bid to track down a sex attacker who assaulted a woman after the historic fireballs ceremony in Stonehaven at New Year.

Officers from Aberdeenshire and Moray division of Police Scotland are renewing their appeal following the assault in the early hours of Tuesday, 1 January.

The 33 year old victim was collected in a silver or grey five door hatchback car around Allardice Street, Stonehaven, after the conclusion of the Fireballs Hogmanay event and was assaulted between 1am and 3am on the A90 between Stonehaven and Portlethen.

The attacker is described as being aged in his fifties and was wearing a red hat and a long dark coloured waterproof coat.

Detective Inspector Graeme Mackie said: “We would like to speak with anyone who may have seen the man highlighted in the CCTV footage during the Fireballs event or who may recognise the man as it is believed the man may have information that is important to the investigation.

“We would also like to speak with anyone who may have seen the car on the A90 between 1am and 3am.”
