Dominion Gas, the Aberdeen-based supplier of cylinder gas and other chemicals for the offshore industry, has been bought by US giant Praxair for an undisclosed sum.

The firm, which employs 80 people, was majority owned by private equity house Graphite Capital, which backed a management buyout in 2007. Dominion, founded in 1988, is expected to generate sales of about £36 million this year.

Scott Kaltrider, vice-president of helium and oil and gas services at Connecticut-based Praxair, said: “With significant growth forecasted in offshore oil and gas exploration and production, we look forward to building on this outstanding service platform and expanding growth through Praxair’s global footprint.”
