US: Beach body search goes on

NEW York police were yesterday scouring a ten-mile stretch of a beach access road where four bodies have been found in the past week, seeking clues or corpses still hidden in the sand.

Ten dogs trained to locate bodies were helping the search.

The search is covering much of a narrow barrier island along Long Island's southern coast that is home to some of New York's most popular beaches.

The four bodies are unidentified, but the investigation has focused on missing prostitutes, including a New Jersey woman who disappeared in May after an incident at a home near where the remains were discovered.

Police have taken a vehicle from the home of a resident of the small community of Oak Beach who has said he hired the woman for a "date" in May.
