University strikes gold

Edinburgh University music PhD student Lisa Norman, 26, was testing out the gold-plated trumpet gifted to the university by leading instrument maker Smith and Watkins of York in a presentation at the Reid Hall yesterday.

The instrument was gifted to the university in recognition of its pioneering research into music and will be used in research projects.
