University gifted £500k student fund

EDINBURGH Napier University has received a gift of £500,000 to help students from Hong Kong, Macau and China study in Scotland.

Up to 100 students will benefit from scholarships, work placements, travel bursaries and student prizes following the donation from Hong Kong entrepreneur and philanthropist Dr Lawrence Ho.

Edinburgh-based students wishing to study abroad for a semester, or a full year of their course, will also be able to apply to the fund.

In addition, The Lawrence Ho Scholarship and Research Fund will allow the university to develop collaborations with businesses and higher education providers in China, Macau and Hong Kong.

Professor Dame Joan Stringer, principal and vice-chancellor at Napier, said: “This very generous gift gives students both in Scotland and in China, Macau and Hong Kong the chance to benefit from a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to study and work abroad.”
