Uni’s garden wins award

Heriot-Watt University has picked up a prestigious Green Flag Award for its formal gardens and central woodland.

The grounds, to which the university moved from the city centre during the late 1960s and 1970s, were gifted by Midlothian Council, having previously formed the historic gardens and grounds of the old Riccarton Estate.

Peter Kerr, director of estates services at Heriot-Watt, said: “The mature woodland and loch, along with formal gardens were an enviable asset for the university to inherit.”
