Union takes rail protest to Holyrood

MEMBERS of the RMT union made their voices heard with a protest and rally outside the Scottish Parliament.

The union has been staging industrial action in opposition to ScotRail's plans to operate "driver-only" trains on the new 300 million Airdrie-Bathgate line since the beginning of April.

The RMT union claims passengers' safety will be put at risk by the decision to get rid of guards from the route, which is set to link trains running between Edinburgh and Glasgow when it opens in December, which ScotRail strongly refutes.

Earlier this week Steve Montgomery, ScotRail's managing director, said the majority of services had operated during the strike.

Since the first week of April ScotRail workers have embarked upon numerous protests.
