Uni role for Fringe chief

A FORMER director of the Edinburgh Fringe has been installed as the new rector of Scotland’s oldest university.

Alistair Moffat takes over from Kevin Dunion, as the 51st rector of St Andrews University.

Previous rectors include Peter Pan creator JM Barrie, Field Marshall Sir Douglas Haig, Jungle Book writer Rudyard Kipling and comedian John Cleese.

Mr Moffat, 61, was director at the Fringe for five years from 1976, in which time it grew to become the largest arts festival in the world.
