Nominations for the post of leader of Britain’s biggest trade union formally end today.

Len McCluskey, the current general secretary of Unite, will be challenged by rank and file member Jerry Hicks.

Mr McCluskey was elected in 2010 as the first general secretary of the merged union, with Mr Hicks coming a surprising second, ahead of two assistant general secretaries.
