Young Scots footballer in car crash incident

A SCOTTISH under-21 international footballer was behind the wheel of a luxury car which is believed to have hit and critically injured a pedestrian.

Scott Allan, who joined English Premier League side West Bromwich Albion from Dundee United in January, is understood to have been reversing his £50,000 Audi Q7 when he struck the man in Portsmouth on Friday evening.

The injured man was taken to Southampton General Hospital, where he remained in a critical condition with head injuries last night.

A police spokesman said the driver of the car was spoken to at the scene but is not being investigated nor are charges expected to be laid. Police are not seeking witnesses to the incident.

Allan, 20, who is currently on loan at Ports-mouth FC, played in a FA cup fixture against Notts County yesterday, but was sent off.

He has represented the Scotland national side at under-21 and under-17
levels.
