Wishing becomes reality as X Factor rules singles chart

X FACTOR stars dominated the UK singles chart last night.

The show’s 2011 finalists, joined by former boyband contestants One Direction and JLS, have topped the chart with a cover of the 1970s classic Wishing on a Star.

Former X Factor contestant Olly Murs was in second spot with Dance With Me Tonight.

Coming in sixth was the show’s judge Kelly Rowland with Down For Whatever.

Christmas songs have begun creeping into the charts, with The Pogues and Kirsty MacColl’s Fairytale Of New York at number 47 and Mariah Carey’s All I Want For Christmas Is You coming in at 64.

Murs, the 2009 X Factor finalist and current Xtra Factor presenter, topped the album chart with In Case You Didn’t Know, trumping Michael Bublé’s Christmas.

Rihanna’s Talk That Talk, last week’s number one, was this week’s number three.
