Weather: Spring set to blossom next week

WINTRY showers that left snow on higher ground yesterday are expected to be the cold snap’s last blast before spring blooms fully next week.

Parts of Scotland and northern England were covered in snow as temperatures continued at an unseasonable low of between 4C and 7C throughout yesterday.

However, there is much better weather on the way for the whole country, with temperatures after Sunday expected to reach double digits in Scotland and the north of England, according to forecasters.

The unseasonable weather caused problems for farmers, the transport network and homeowners throughout March and the Easter holiday. Average temperatures between 1 March and 26 March were just 2.5C, three degrees below the long-term average, the Met Office said.
