Video: George Galloway issues apology over Twitter insult

BRADFORD WEST MP George Galloway has uploaded a typically loquacious apology to YouTube after getting embroiled in what he calls ‘dialogue’ with another Twitter user.

In the four and a half minute video, uploaded to his YouTube account ‘Molucca Red’. Mr Galloway thanks those who ‘have sent their good wishes’, adding ‘and to the haters in all their malignancy, on Twitter and elsewhere - eat your hearts out.’

Mr Galloway came under fire on the social networking site for tweeting to a user: ‘You badly need medical help son. Will decent Rangers fans please substitute this windae-licker...’

The term ‘window-licker’ was named the third worst insult to those with disabilities in a 2003 BBC poll.

During the video, Mr Galloway repeatedly insists that he believed the term referred to someone who was a ‘moron’.

The former Glasgow MP comments that he ‘should’ve known better’, adding that ‘you can’t wrestle with a chimney sweep and expect to come out clean’.

The Respect Party MP has been making headlines for all the wrong reasons recently, most recently for his affiliation with a Lebanon-based TV station with alleged links to Syria and Iran.

The controversial tweet came barely days after Mr Galloway received wide-spread criticism following his defence of Assange, and his subsequent remarks about the Wikileaks founder being guilty only of ‘bad sexual etiquette’. Mr Galloway later defended his comments, claiming that: “This has all the hallmarks of a set-up.

“What occurred is not rape as most people understand it”.

The comments led to Salma Yaqoob, leader of Mr Galloway’s political party, calling his remarks ‘disappointing’.
