Vets and meat inspectors protest over not being paid

SCORES of vets and meat hygiene inspectors will stage a protest today over complaints that they have not been paid for up to two months.

Members of Unison will demonstrate outside the London headquarters of the Food Standards Agency amid claims that staff are owed up to £500,000 because of the “botched” handling of a contract.

Union official Simon Watson said: “More than 100 vets have not been paid for up to two months, but despite this, our members have continued working to safeguard animal welfare and to make sure that the meat on our plates is safe to eat.”
