Unite vote yes for strike

Members of the UK’s biggest trade union, Unite, have voted by three to one to join the strike against changes to public-sector pensions.

It said 75 per cent of those who took part in a ballot voted yes to joining the day of action on 30 November.

Unions representing workers ranging from refuse collectors and school dinner staff to head teachers and government lawyers have already backed industrial action.

Unite general secretary Len McCluskey said the votes should heap further pressure on Westminster to rethink its plans to “force” public-sector workers to pay more and work for longer.
