Uncomfortable bill for Labour's designer sofas

A GOVERNMENT department spent more than £134,000 on luxury sofas intended to create a "peaceful oasis" in the workplace, an anti-waste drive has revealed.

A probe into Whitehall spending by the new government found Labour ministers had authorised Department for Communities and Local Government officials to buy 28 shocking-red Alcove Highback sofas by designers Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec at a cost of 4,120 each.
