Twins give Mo another double

OLYMPIC gold medal hero Mo Farah was celebrating his second double success of the summer yesterday after his wife gave birth to twin girls.

The Team GB runner, who took gold in the 10,000m and 5,000m at the London games, described their arrival as “very exciting” and said he was present when Tania gave birth on Friday.

Farah’s wife and stepdaughter, Rihanna, were pictured in the Olympic stadium cheering him on. Tania gave birth in Stratford, just under two weeks after her husband’s second triumph in the 5,000m.

“My wife has been holding on so long and it’s great that she held on this long and didn’t give birth on the track (at the Olympics),” he said.

Farah said he couldn’t compare fatherhood to winning Olympic gold. “It’s completely different,” he said. “It’s out of your control, it was weird, but as a father I’m very proud. To have three kids in the family is going to be exciting.”

The Somalia-born athlete, who became only the seventh man to win the long-distance Olympic double, said the names of the newborns would be inscribed on his two gold medals, once he and his wife decide what to call them. Asked if he would be returning to see them yesterday, Farah replied: “No, no, no. I’ve got a race.”
