Sir Jimmy Saville’s holiday home on the market, then off the market days later

THE remote Highland hideaway of the late Sir Jimmy Savile has been taken off the market – just days after being put up for sale.

The DJ and television presenter, who died seven months ago at the age of 84, bought the white cottage, called Allt ba Reigh, in Glencoe in 1998.

A for sale sign went up at the property this week, but the trustees of his estate yesterday halted the sale.

A spokeswoman for selling agents MacArthur Stewart in Fort William said: “We had a call from the trustees asking us to suspend the sale.

“We have not been told why. We have had some interest already. It was going on the market for offers over £300,000 – I think the trustees were looking at £350,000.

“But we have now stopped marketing the property and taken the sign down.

“However, we will still note the names of people who are interested. We are awaiting further instructions from the trustees.”

The cottage is more than a mile from any other property and has views of the Three Sisters mountain range.

Sir Jimmy, famous for presenting Top of the Pops and Jim’ll Fix It, bought the house in 1998 after falling in love with it on a cycling holiday in 1944.

He famously took Prince Charles into the garden for a better view of the glen.
