Shamed MP Joyce boasts of fighting as a ‘hobby’

Disgraced MP Eric Joyce has described fighting as his “hobby” while speaking about the night he went “on the rampage” in a House of Commons bar.

Joyce, who resigned from the Labour Party after being convicted of four counts of assault in February, said that he hit fellow politicians who tried to restrain him because they “presented targets”.

He also boasted about his brawling technique, giving tips on how to inflict maximum damage when headbutting people.

The former Army major and judo expert, who is standing down from his Falkirk seat at the next general election, described the brawl in Strangers’ Bar as a “one-sided rampage”.

“They were quite genteel people,” he said.

“It was more like me marauding. It wasn’t a fight, it was me on the rampage.”

The Perth-born MP said he was “chatting to folk about anger management”.

He estimated that he had been in about 100 fights, but never lost one.

Pressed on whether fighting was his “main passion”, Joyce responded: “No, it’s just a hobby.”

He added that he was “better at it than politics”.
