Scottish independence: Boris Johnson says independence is finished

Boris Johnson has claimed the Olympics have harmed Alex Salmond’s bid for independence.

During a question-and-answer session on Twitter, the London mayor responded to a query on the 2014 independence referendum.

Mr Johnson tweeted: “The Scots are never going to vote for independence… these games have done for Salmond… vote Hoy.”

He was referring to the gold medal achievements of the cyclist Sir Chris Hoy, who rejected suggestions English and Scottish athletes should compete as separate nations.
